an old Ford flashed by

going well over 40 mph

with a truck bed full of people

all standing perfectly straight

wearing gowns and tuxedos!

I snapped my head back and swerved into a dramatic double-take...

Early this morning

while running up a long gravel road

with stiff bones and sleepy eyes

I considered walking...

until I noticed a young boy in yellow pajamas

dragging an enormous recycling receptacle

up the world's steepest driveway

with a look of unwavering determination.
