A Few Hundred Yards From the Finish Line

I'm a few hundred yards from the finish line
and running as fast as possible
when a dad blows by me
while pushing his son
in a giant off-road stroller.

Modern Discomfort

After several weeks of hiking
on the Pacific Crest Trail
I lay awake, restless in a cheap hotel
as the TV, AC, and mini fridge drone on
feeling oddly uncomfortable
with modern comfort.

While Tupac Rapped On

I was running through a narrow trail
sprinting around sharp bends
and listening to Tupac on my ipod
when I nearly collided with a woman
who was straddling the trail
with her pants pulled down to her ankles
and urinating all over it -
I jumped high over her right shoulder
landed between bushes
and quickly disappeared down the trail
without looking back
while Tupac rapped on.

Tiny Patch of Snow

I ran up Mt. Ashland
on a warm afternoon
shirtless and sweaty
past birds, butterflies, and budding flowers.
Each switchback
drew me closer towards the sun
when a tiny patch of snow
finally reminded me
it's late January...
